On May 29 at the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy took place 10th International Summer School of Political Scientists “Religion in the conditions of modernization of modern society”, which was organized by the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbassy, Kazakhstan Center for Humanitarian and Political conjuncture and the Association of Political Studies of Kazakhstan. The university professors, SRI researchers, representatives of civil society, PhD students, undergraduates and students took part on the event.

The main goal of the school is to contribute to the development of political education in Kazakhstan, raising the level of qualifications of teachers of political and humanitarian subjects, strengthening the expert significance of national political science.

The director of the Library of Elbassy, doctor of political sciences, professor Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov opened the meeting.

– The subject of the 10th Summer school of political scientists “Religion in the conditions of modernization of modern society” is particularly relevant both for Kazakhstan society and for the entire world community. From the first years of independence of Kazakhstan, realizing the increased role of religion in society, the Head of State N.A. Nazarbayev initiated the Forum of World and Traditional Religions in the capital of the republic. The Astana Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions has received universal recognition and wide support from members of the world community and has become an adequate response to the challenges of our time. It makes a significant contribution to the global process of inter-civilization and intercultural dialogue. Kazakhstan's experience and state policy in the sphere of religion proves to the world community the real possibility of the coexistence of different religious denomination in one country. The phenomenon of Kazakhstan's success lies in the peculiarities of the history of our country and its people. The development of interreligious harmony is directly related to the processes of centuries-old interpenetration of various types of civilizations and cultures in the middle part of Eurasia. The world, the dialogue of cultures and religions in Kazakhstan is rightly recognized as the world standard, – he noted. Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov expressed the hope that school participants will be able to comprehensively address topical issues, fruitfully discuss the religious situation in the context of the geopolitical transformation of the modern world and develop a joint solutions.

The president of the Kazakhstan Center for Humanitarian and Political conjuncture, doctor of political sciences, professor Esenzhol Aliyarov and the Chief researcher of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Yury Buluktaev addressed a welcoming speech to the participants of the event.

The report “The main trends of development of Islam in the territory of the former USSR” was made by senior researcher of MGIMO, Islamic scholar, anthropologist of religion, ethnologist, Caucaso-historian, candidate of historical sciences Ahmet Yarlykapov.

The report “Religion and Politics in Tajikistan: the impact of religion on political processes and political decisions” was made by the chief specialist of the department of modern Islam research of the Center for Islamic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Muzaffar Virkani.

The professor at the Institute of Diplomacy of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, doctor of historical sciences Asylbek Izbairov made the report “Features of the ideology of violent extremism. To the problem of improving the methods of prevention and deradicalization”. He detailed his views on the problems of the Islamic factor in the states of Central Asia, extremist ideology and international terrorism. 

Speakers' speeches aroused great interest among participants and listeners. 

Students were given certificates at the end of the meeting.
