The VIII international Symposium of Altai nationalities was held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan. It was attended by delegations from 15 countries and over 150 scientists from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Russia, Korea, Japan, China, etc. Leading researcher of the Library of Elbassy Gaziz Telebaev was among the Kazakh delegates. He made a report on the culture of horsemanship in the Orkhon-Yenisei monuments of writing.
For five days, the participants in the event discussed pressing issues in studies of the customs, traditions and culture of the peoples of Altai. The main theme of the Symposium was "Animals and livestock culture among the Altai peoples". There were a lot of interesting data about the life and nomadic routes of the ancient Turks. In his report, Gaziz Telebayev told about the history of terms found on the monuments of the Orkhon-Yenisei script, which to this day sound in our speech.
- Many terms in the modern Turkic languages, related to horses, for example, at, jylqy, aıǵyr – related to Western Turkic and Eastern Turkic kaganats. Different definitions were used in different contexts. At - in a military sense, as the indispensable condition for victory, jylqy - as a means of transportation, a precondition for running of the household, - noted Doctor of philosophical sciences, Professor, G. Telebayev.
The civilization of the ancient Altai is one of the seven facets of the Great steppe that Elbassy wrote about in his article. "Altai is of great importance for the history of Kazakhs and other peoples of Eurasia. From the beginning of time, these majestic mountains not only decorated the lands of Kazakhstan, but also were the cradle of the Turks. It was here in the middle of the I Millennium BC that the Turkic world was born, and a new milestone in the life of the Great steppe came," - Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasizes. Symposiums uniting the Altai peoples are a necessity for the further development of the Turkic world.
- Altai origin not only among us - descendants of Turkic nomads, but also among many modern peoples, including Japanese, Koreans, who also took part in the Symposium and made extensive reports. For them, the Altai is the ancestral home, – tells G. Telebayev. According to him, in the future such a large forum can be held in Kazakhstan. By the way, among the participants legitimately can take their place representatives of tribes of American Indians, for whom the Altai is the ancestral home.
