THE LIBRARY OF ELBASSY SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION WITH THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

A Memorandum of cooperation between the Library of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan was signed in Almaty today. The purpose of the document is to cooperate in the implementation of joint cultural, educational and research projects, including in the framework of promoting the ideas and initiatives of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev.

The document was signed by Amerkhan Rakhimzhanov, Director of the Library of Elbassy, and Bakytzhamal Ospanova, Director of the National Library. 

The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan was opened on December 31, 1910. Its first Director was Uraz Jandosov, a prominent state and public figure in Kazakhstan. In 1991, the Library received the status "national". Today it is a national book depository that collects and stores the documentary written heritage of Kazakhs and other peoples of Kazakhstan.

The book collection has over 6.9 million items. The Library building, constructed by a special project in 1970, is included in the State List of historical and cultural monuments.
