«SPIRITUAL TESTAMENT OF ABAI»: UNITY OF THE PEOPLE IS THE KEY TO DEVELOPMENT

The article by the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Elbassy Nursultan Nazarbayev "Spiritual Testament of Abai" reflects the great significance of the legacy of great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayev in the modern development of Kazakhstan. The wise sayings of the philosopher, his deep emotions and hopes for his people became a guide for Elbassy in the arduous and very responsible way of nation-building.

The celebration of the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and philosopher was marked by a wide popularization of his work around the world, a number of events were held under the auspices of UNESCO and TURKSOY. The main goal of these endeavors was achieved – the world spoke the words of Abai, in the language of Abai!

" Spiritual Testament of Abai " is not just answers to questions that concern Kazakhstanis, the article was made as a result of all the work carried out in the Year of Abai. These are deep reflections of Nursultan Nazarbayev, an outstanding politician of our time, in which he shared the most intimate things that nurtured in him the creativity of the poet-philosopher.

At the very beginning of the article, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev emphasizes the regularity of the appearance of the brightest personalities in the history of mankind during the crucial epochs. And the harder the path they take, the brighter their guiding star burns, illuminating the path to their descendants for centuries.  "Great poet, brilliant thinker Abai became the founder of the beginning of the 19th and 20th centuries of the Enlightenment and Awakening in the Kazakh steppe, his priceless legacy became the moral guide of the people on the way to the future," Elbassy writes.

The beauty of English is revealed in the works of the greatest playwright in history, William Shakespeare. The Italian language became known as Italian and became famous for the poems of the poet Dante Alighieri. Such individuals become the ambassadors of their people to the people of the world. The great Abai announced the Kazakh people and their culture to the whole world. His march on the planet began in 1995 when the 150th anniversary of Abai Kunanbaev was celebrated for the first time worldwide. In his article, Elbassy explains why this event was an exception to the rules of the international organization, thanking for the favorable step. For us, this is evidence of how high political authority Nursultan Abishevich possessed in the early years of the construction of the young independent state.

Having absorbed the best song and poetic traditions of the people, Elbassy has always been and remains close to true folk art. Recalling his childhood, he writes with trepidation about his grandmother Myrzabala and mother Alzhan, whose soulful voices, for sure, still sound in his soul by Abai's poems. The lines of the great poet not only laid the foundation for the cultural and moral development of the First President of Kazakhstan, but also gave impetus to further personal development.

"Don't think about profit, think about humanity," Abai calls in his poem, which Elbassy quotes in the article. The wisdom and prophetic gift of Abai enabled him to foresee the importance of the role of innovative development. In his work, the thinker proclaimed the triumph of morality and spirituality – the main condition for scientific and technological progress. Nursultan Nazarbayev promoted the same basic principles in the development of a new state on the world map from the early days of independence.

The philosophical legacy of Abai has become a valuable treasure for Elbassy, a collection of valuable advice and guidance that he has thoroughly researched and rethought throughout his career. In the article "Spiritual Testament of Abai", Nursultan Abishevich draws parallels between epochs, rulers, prominent figures, sages and philosophers who left their significant mark on the history of the Great Steppe.

The words of Elbassy that the Kazakhs did not have such a ruler with whom Abai could talk openly face to face, sharing thoughts about the people, are painful and regretful. Indeed, the period of life of the great Kazakh thinker came at a very difficult time, marked in the history of the Kazakh people by upheavals due to the reforms of the tsarist autocracy.

Abai clearly knew the troubles of the people, saw and understood the roots of the problems, he allowed to pass through himself the pleas of the destitute steppe people who lost their peace and prosperity in their native expanses of the steppe.  And at that time there was no equal to him in terms of thinking, the vision of problems and ways to solve them. He lived as a lonely genius, not finding the support that could be in the person of a worthy and just ruler.

Today Kazakhstan, the land of Abai, is a dynamically growing state. The vast political experience and wisdom of the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev became the key to the current sustainable development of the country. Having firmly taken its place on the political map of the world, Kazakhstan has become a model of interethnic and interfaith harmony, transmitting the ideas of unity and good neighborliness to the whole world, as great Abai taught.

The present capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, stands as a shining peak above the horizon of all the long-term activities of Elbassy. Here, a new generation of Kazakhstanis receives advanced education, makes life plans, implements the dreams that Abai wrote about. The spiritual center of the people, which preserves the chronicle of the formation of the Country of the Great Steppe, now lives and thrives in the city of Turkestan, to which in 2018 Elbassy gave the status of a regional center. These outstanding achievements will live for centuries, continuing the glorious history of the Kazakh nation as an integral part of the Turkic world.

The closing of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was an achievement and an outstanding political victory of Elbassy. "Peace came only after more than forty years, during which horrific explosions shook these vast expanses, contaminating the earth's depths, its surface, and the sky above it. And when the polygon fell silent, perhaps the genius of the poet, who sang of the peaceful and free life of the people, finally sighed with relief," Elbassy writes in the article.

Rejecting the temptation to be the leader of a nuclear power, Nursultan Abishevich made a number of unprecedented decisions in world history that later influenced the architecture of the world. This step of Elbassy, recognized as an outstanding contribution to the policy of nuclear disarmament and global security, is evidence of the unshakeable commitment of Nursultan Abishevich to Abai's precepts of peace and creation. The principles of humanity and justice of the great sage are at the heart of the activities of Elbassy, feeding his strong inner core with a profound philosophy. Today, the land of Abai, his resting place has become a center of pilgrimage for Kazakhstanis and admirers of the poet's work from all over the world.

In the year of the anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev, the world is shaken by a series of extraordinary events. The pandemic has caused economic stagnation around the world, and the financial crisis has exacerbated many vital issues. As a result, total tension in some regions of the world has escalated into violent conflicts. And here again, the precepts of Abai are relevant, to which Elbassy refers, drawing wisdom and moderation from them. The world has changed irrevocably, changing deeply-rooted norms. Global changes taking place in the world in recent years are becoming more apparent, indicating shifts in the geopolitical architecture.

Is there a turning point at the turn of a new era, or is it a natural turbulence characteristic of the dynamic and unpredictable world of the 21st century? The scale of the changes that are taking place is truly enormous, and they have almost no analogues in the history of mankind. The world has become very fragile. Elbassy spoke about this back in 2016 in his Manifesto "Peace. XXI Century". "All of humanity looked to the twenty-first century as a new era of global cooperation. But today it may turn out to be a mirage," Nursultan Nazarbayev warns, addressing world leaders.

The current article by Elbassy "Spiritual Testament of Abai" is another message of the wise statesman not only to his people, but also to the whole world, in which the words of Abai Kunanbayev are already heard in almost all languages. Today Abai continues his march around the world and this is also happening thanks to the huge contribution of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the popularization of the poet's legacy at the international level. In his article, Elbassy emphasizes the high qualities of the Head of state, noting him as an example of high citizenship and honest, responsible devotion.

The rich experience of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and his deep knowledge of both his own country and the outside world, languages and cultures of the East and West, his brilliant work at the international level, as well as the ability to find a harmonious balance between the ideals of national unity and commitment to universal values, is an important factor in the current positioning of Kazakhstan as one of the stable and reliable participants in the political arena of the world.

The logic of life confirms the inviolability of simple human values, which Abai Kunanbayev wrote about in his works. And today, pursuing a policy of peace and good neighborliness, progress and creation, Kazakhstan continues to develop along the course set by the First President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The future of the country is a world without strife and wars, where every citizen lives and thrives for the benefit of his family, and therefore the whole society, a world that, after a long winter, enjoys a good, sunny and clear spring, as Abai Kunanbayev knew it.

"... On the spring nomad camp, the auls met,

In common joy, the relatives hugged

And acquaintances just, joking and laughing,

Began a heart-to-heart talk about everything…".
